Vessel Work's haul-out capabilities can accommodate vessels from 15-55m. Situated a two-hour drive from Auckland international airport, the facility is purpose-built to lift commercial and recreational vessels up to 350 tonnes. Additionally, larger yachts have alongside berthing up to 55m, with construction starting soon to increase the water capacity via a refit wharf extension of 120m.
Drawing on the region's world-class maritime contractor network, the open yard allows a vessel conducting a refit the flexibility of unlimited contractor access to complete a project with contractors of your choosing. Extensive maritime history is another key factor that supports successful refits at Vessel Works. Many contractors are based permanently at Vessel Works and provide everything you need. The extensive services include:
- Heavy or light engineering
- Anti-foul and topside painting
- Water or garnet blasting
- Woodwork
- Fibreglass
- Metal fabrication
- Upholstery

Having just arrived over from the Mediterranean, we knew coming into New Zealand that we needed a large maintenance period and navigational refit done on board.
The team at Vessel Works was fantastic at assisting us from the start. We were given eight weeks to get what should’ve been at least a four-month refit, and Vessel Works did not shy away from what we needed. They were incredibly accommodating, and without them, we would not have been able to complete the project on schedule.
The office team are fantastic with their communications and recommendations, directing us towards places to stay and even good places to eat around town. The yard crew managed to solve any problem we sent their way, big or small, and the range of contractors around the yard made getting work done on board convenient and easy to manage.
Vessel works is conveniently located so that finding accommodation for crew was easy and close by and provisioning for the season ahead a breeze.
It was great to be able to show up at work every morning knowing that the vessel was safe and well taken care of while in the hands of the yard. The whole team took extra time to get to know the crew which made the whole experience more enjoyable.
I would not hesitate to have work done at Vessel Works again or to recommend their services to any yacht owner or crew.
