Southern Wind arrives at Oceania Marine

Three high performance 30M sail yachts constructed by the Southern Wind boat builder have hauled out at Oceania Marine’s South Shipyard in Port Whangarei, New Zealand. Being carbon composite with lifting keels, these vessels are technically challenging to handle. The trio put the 560T travel lift through its paces and the yard accommodated the vessels on the hardstand with custom built splashes (formed hull cradles) and stands.

A variety of works were carried out ranging from rig removal, repaints, lifting keel repairs and general maintenance. Southern Wind Ambassador for Australia-New Zealand, Kevin Wallis, visited to check all was well with the yachts and give the yard a ‘tick of approval’ for the works completed.

Oceania Marine is a full service yard specialising in superyacht haulout and refit work. It has a large workforce covering all the marine trades equipping it to provide a high standard of engineering, survey, painting, boat-building and general maintenance services. All projects are overseen by one of the yards experienced project managers, supported by professional accounting and project reporting systems.

A major attraction to getting hauled out at Oceania Marine is the close proximity of the wider support services that Port Whangarei has to offer. Long term superyacht berthage is available at the Port Nikau Marina located next to the yard and there is good quality crew accommodation ashore within the city of Whangarei as required. Access to the port is excellent with no traffic or parking problems often associated with other centers. The port is also the center of a marine hub containing specialist service agents, suppliers and contractors enabling Oceania Marine to provide every need that the superyacht may have.

With all three yachts now back in the water they will spend some time in New Zealand waters for the Southern Summer before heading back into tropical waters once the cyclone season is over.
