Overview
More than a museum, MONA provides an art experience
Mona really put Tassie on the map. More than a museum, MONA provides an art experience: the art gallery is not one as you know it: Art installations with a revolving showcase of international artists. As part of the experience, MONA offers a series of unique restaurants (The Source Restaurant, FARO, Museum Café, Wine Bar and Void Bar). It has its own winery (Moorilla) with Cellar Door and created the Mona Pavilions, super flash luxury accommodation dens on the River Derwent. Two special MONA ferries run between Hobart and the museum.
You can’t come to Tassie and miss this place; it is simply amazing- this is a truly world class Museum. Mona and the internationally renowned music/art/dance festivals Mofo (taking place in Launceston) and Dark Mofo are also closely related as initiated by the same group.
Mona organises private experiences and even dinners with Mona Director David Walsh, who started the museum after making millions as a professional gambler. It can be accessed by water (an 8 nm drive from Hobart for yachts that fit under the bridge).
