Antigua & Barbuda Search And Rescue, ABSAR, is a non-profit organization that provides 24/7 emergency assistance in and around Antigua and Barbuda, offering medical, fire fighting & search & rescue services
Founded in 1998, The organization is headed by experienced paramedic Jonathan Cornelius, and run by a group of volunteers with extensive medical, marine, aviation and firefighting backgrounds.
They currently have a 28’ Protector RIB and a 27’ Revenger RIB for their rescue boats, which are both used for search and rescues and for regatta support. They can co-ordinate aerial search and rescues and medivacs using both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters.
They have a walk in MEDIC STATION at the Antigua Yacht Club Marina, which treats over 800 medical cases each year. They also coordinate MEDIVACS.
They have a Land Rover ambulance and a rescue vehicle that are used to transport patients to the island’s main hospital and to other medical facilities on the island.
The organization is supported by local sponsors and relies heavily on fundraising efforts.
