Andrew Blatter
The Founder & Editor
Andrew started working in the Superyacht Industry in 1988 - when he first 'walked the docks' of the Club de Mar in Palma, looking for a passage West! Since then, he has sailed around the world and completed many Trans-Atlantic crossings in his capacity as Professional Captain.
He was one of the first batch of captains to get his MCA Class IV Master for yachts up to 3000 tons, and was also a passionate RYA Yachtmaster Instructor. He managed various refits and a new build out of Southampton, chartered extensively throughout the Med and Caribbean, and did what every professional yachtsman knows he shouldn't do - buy your own boat!
With Caroline and a young family, they sailed on their 37ft cruising boat 'Tatopani' Trans-Atlantic to Antigua, where they made their base for 11 years.
After a chance encounter with Roger Lean-Vercoe, the renown Superyacht Editor for Boat International, Andrew began writing as 'World Correspondent' for them, covering new builds, classic refits and various Regattas.
Over time, the need for a 'database' of reliable yachting service contacts became apparent - Andrew found himself recommending services in Antigua and the wider Caribbean, to Captains who were returning after a few years being based in the Med or USA, or found themselves in new cruising grounds.
In Andrew's words, "This then was the very 'raison d'etre' for the first Guide book, to collate an 'inside Guide' of Captain's own recommended services throughout the Caribbean, to share the benefits of each other's collective experience.
So in 2002, Andrew and Caroline set up Superyacht Publications, which has flourished over the years, publishing five regional Superyacht Services Guides to The Caribbean, The East Coast U.S.A & Bermuda, The Mediterranean, Northern Europe & Baltic, and The Pacific, Asia & Middle East, and developing a trusted online platform.
They have a very committed, experienced and professional team around the world who continue to be feet on the ground, researching and updating SSG's database of services and suppliers in a multitude of destinations:
Meet our Authors, all local experts and most ex-yachties, our outstanding graphic designer Simon Udal Design; a strong Admin team, the dynamic Serenity Digital for our website, Bishops Printers who diligently turn pdf's into printed Guides, and an expert friendly sales team at Bluewater Books & Stanfords who help with final distribution.
Andrew became a well recognised face in the Caribbean and Spanish Island of Mallorca, as he travelled researching and writing, networking at the various Boat Shows and always enjoying sailing in Regattas on both sides of the Atlantic.
In 2011, the family of now 6 relocated from Antigua to England, Andrew and Caroline working alongside each other until Andrew retired in 2016, due to deteriorating ill health, with Caroline taking the reigns of Superyacht Publications full time.
Sadly Andrew passed away aged 58, on 6th May 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
