About Dominica

Overview

The nature island of Dominica prides itself as being one of the Caribbean's exceptional eco-tourism destinations, offering some of the most spectacular and unspoilt scenery in the region.

On the northwest coast, Prince Rupert Bay provides a gentle and fail-safe anchorage, with plenty of swinging room for even the largest of superyachts. A new marina facility is currently under construction in Douglas Bay Portsmouth, which will be a welcome addition for visiting yachts once completed. Shoreside yacht support is available from a choice of yacht services providers (see ‘Yacht Services’ and ‘Island Tours’ sections).

There are a wonderful variety of island tours available – using a choice of recommended tour guides - crew and guests can indulge in anything from a ten-minute walk leading up to the 200-ft sheer Trafalgar Falls to bathe in sulphur springs, to a six-mile hike to the Boiling Lake, the second largest actively-boiling lake in the world! Energetic hikers can also undertake all (or selected segments) of the Waitukubuli National Trail, which traverses the entire length of Dominica.

Similarly, there are action-packed/ outward-bound activities that Dominica has to offer – which includes abseiling into canyons, forging through crystal waterfalls, Zip-lining, horseback riding, river tubing and kayaking excursions and even freediving tuition at Scotts Head.

There are some superb ‘get-away’ accommodations available, nestled throughout the island, for yachting visitors to stay ashore. These range from earthy eco-resorts and inland retreats with natural hot spa baths and quaint lodgings, to comfortable and stylish boutique hostelries and hotels including the Intercontinental Dominica Resort & Spa in Portsmouth and the Jungle Bay Resort at Soufriere.

Dominica also has some of the best scuba diving and freediving in the Caribbean, with excellent whale watching opportunities available off the west coast.

Beyond this, Dominica’s facilities for visiting yachts include functional and friendly Customs procedures and duty-free fuel bunkers readily available. All in all, Dominica offers a great package for the visiting charter yacht and is guaranteed to make crew, and guests feel revitalized with adventure-filled memories of this truly wonderful nature island.
