Overview
Centrally located in the Grenadines archipelago, Canouan is a gorgeous island whose name (derived from the Arawak word ‘cannoun’) means ‘Turtle island’. Canouan is fringed by a beautiful horseshoe coral reef on its south east coastline, with the main town and seaport, Charlestown, located on the north side of the island.
NB* Due to the passage of Hurricane Beryl in 2024 over Canouan, some of the landline numbers may not working. All of the major Canouan hotels and the Sandy Lane Yacht Club Superyacht Marina have bounced back after damage repairs and are offering their customary top class service.
Canouan holds court to some of the most luxurious facilities available for charter yachts and their clientele – across the entire SVG region. Already firmly established as a first-class arrival hub for superyacht owners, clients and their private jets, the Sandy Lane Yacht Club Marina provides 120 berths with 29 of those dedicated for superyachts up to 100m LOA. Canouan Jetport has a 5,900-ft runway accommodating Lear and G5 jets, with ample parking space for private planes.
On shore, the Mandarin Oriental Canouan Resort represents an uber opulent first-class boutique hotel resort, alongside the Canouan Estate Resort & Villas offering a choice of luxury rental villa accommodations. Beyond this, the resort and estate also offer sumptuous amenities including several first-class restaurants, an incredible waterfront spa and a superb Jim Fazio designed golf course. The Sandy Lane Yacht Club development also offers luxury villas and apartments for rent with purchase options available.
Across in Charlestown, the ‘Soho Beach House Canouan’ membership hotel offers its visitors some picturesque and luxurious beachfront hotel accommodations. At the Sandy Lane Yacht Club and residences, visitors have a choice of restaurants and bars with The Shenanigans Beach Club a firm favourite for yacht crews and charter guests, alongside the fine dining, Foxy Jack’s Restaurant. Provisioning can be found at Randy’s Supermarket alongside Acquera Erika’s Yacht Agents offices in the Sandy Lane Yacht Club Marina plaza. A Diamonds International jewellery shop is also on-hand in the plaza to further augment the Mediterranean style marina village facilities.
With direct access to the Tobago Cays (just a few miles to the south), Canouan is the perfect base for a yachting charter or itinerary – and with the Sandy Lane Yacht Club’s excellent dockage and ‘Big boat’ services, the island has true superyacht appeal as a premium base for Grenadines itineraries.
